What is psychotherapy, and how does it work?

If you need help identifying and changing thought patterns, emotional responses, or behaviors contributing to mental health challenges, Advanced Psychiatry can help. We offer structured, evidence-based psychotherapy with licensed therapists to guide you through difficult times.

During your sessions, you’ll talk through your experiences, build insight, and learn evidence-based coping strategies. Most patients start with weekly or bi-weekly sessions, with the frequency adjusted based on need.

Is Psychotherapy Right for You?

  • Have you tried medication or self‑help strategies and still feel stuck?

  • Do symptoms of depression, anxiety, or trauma interfere with your daily life?

  • Would you benefit from combining therapy with advanced treatments like TMS or Spravato®?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, a psychotherapist at Advanced Psychiatry can help. Take our self-assessment or call our office to find out if psychotherapy is right for you.

Psychotherapy Can Guide You to Healing

Understanding Your Needs

Your therapist gathers a complete medical and mental health history, taking time to understand your symptoms, emotional patterns, and personal challenges. This comprehensive assessment helps identify the most effective psychotherapy approach, whether for depression, anxiety, trauma, or other mental health concerns.

Why Choose Psychotherapy at Advanced Psychiatry

At Advanced Psychiatry, we provide psychotherapy that is effective, personalized, and compassionate. Using evidence-based approaches like CBT, trauma-informed therapy, interpersonal therapy, and mindfulness, we tailor each treatment to your unique needs and goals. Combining psychotherapy with medication management can often lead to better outcomes than either treatment alone. When appropriate, therapy can also be integrated with TMS, Spravato®, or medication for a comprehensive approach. Our supportive team is here to guide you every step of the way.

How We Work

Structured & Evidence‑Based

Sessions are guided by research‑backed frameworks, including CBT for depression and anxiety, trauma‑informed therapy prioritizing safety and empowerment, interpersonal therapy for grief and relationship issues, short‑term focused psychotherapy and mindfulness‑based approaches to support emotional regulation and resilience.

Integrated Care Pathways

For treatment‑resistant depression or complex conditions, psychotherapy can be paired with TMS therapy, Spravato®, medication management, or integrative psychiatry. This integrated model delivers more comprehensive relief than therapy alone.

In‑Person & Online Therapy

We offer in-person sessions at our mental health clinic, as well as secure telehealth services for clients across all of our locations. Online therapy provides the same clinical quality with greater flexibility.
